Deborah Norville to keynote the Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon

Sep 6, 2019

VCU Massey Cancer Center will welcome Deborah Norville as keynote speaker at the 25th Annual Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon presented by the Anthony F. and Susan M. Markel Foundation and Markel Corporation on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at The Jefferson Hotel.

As anchor of Inside Edition, the country’s top-rated and most honored syndicated newsmagazine, Deborah Norville is currently the longest serving anchor on American television and an inductee into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. The veteran journalist joined Inside Edition in 1995 from CBS News where she was anchor and correspondent. Norville is a former-co-host of NBC’s “Today” and anchor of NBC “News at Sunrise.”

Norville is also a best-selling author and lecturer. Norville’s first book, “Back on Track: How to Straighten Out Your Life When It Throws You a Curve,” was published in 1997 and chronicles her struggles with depression while also profiling the strength of other indomitable women who have overcome challenges, including breast cancer. Her second book, “Thank you Power: Making the SCIENCE of Gratitude Work for YOU,” which was published in 2007 and details the connection between gratitude and enhanced cognitive function and energy, was a New York Times best-seller. Her third book, “The Power of Respect: Benefit from the Most Forgotten Element of Success” was published in 2009.

Norville has received national recognition and innumerable awards for her role as a philanthropist and for her professional and personal accomplishments that have inspired women everywhere to focus on resilience and strength. In 2014, she received the American Cancer Society’s Mother of the Year award for her remarkable success in balancing her career, philanthropic efforts and family life.

In 2019, Norville’s surgery to remove a cancerous thyroid nodule made headlines. Norville and her medical team had been monitoring the nodule for several years after two viewers spotted the lump on her neck and reached out to alert her.

“Deborah Norville’s long career is truly inspiring, and her perseverance epitomizes the spirit of survivorship and dedication celebrated at Women & Wellness,” said Connie Hom, chair of the 2020 Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon committee and member of the Massey Cancer Center Advisory Board. “We are so excited to host her at this very special Silver Anniversary celebration of advancing women’s cancer research right here in Richmond.”

The Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon has been the signature event of the Women & Wellness Forum Series for 25 years, raising awareness and funds for lifesaving women’s cancer research conducted at VCU Massey Cancer Center. Guests will have the opportunity to hear from Norville at either a breakfast or luncheon on February 4, 2020. Norville will sign books and autographs for a limited time immediately following both events.

Tickets will be available on November 4 at 9:00 am at https://massey.vcu.edumasseycancercenter.org/women&wellness. Tables and seats can be reserved via sponsorship now. For more information, contact Kim Filipowicz at (804)828-1451 or filipowiczk@vcu.edu.
