At VCU Massey Cancer Center, our focus continues to be on easing suffering from cancer.

Many of you have reached out to ask us how you can support our efforts, specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please consider getting involved in one of the following ways.

We’re here for our community, and we appreciate any and all support. Thank you for your generosity!

Donate personal protective equipment
Hospitals across the country are looking ahead at how they can care for many more patients to come during COVID-19. We currently have sufficient supplies of personal protective equipment to keep our doctors and nurses safe on the frontlines, but we cannot predict the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To prevent future shortages of PPE and protect our clinicians until transmission of the virus is over, we are reaching out to the community for support.

If you are an organization or business (labs, construction, machinery, salons and other personal services) with supplies of PPE, please consider a donation of your supplies to help us protect the physicians, nurses and other team members working for the safety and wellbeing of our community.

We welcome donations of the following items:

  • Surgical masks
  • N95 masks
  • Face shields
  • Disposable gowns
  • Latex-free gloves
  • Goggles
  • Shoe covers
  • Head covers
  • Germicide wipes

If you would like to make face masks, here are the instructions. We recommend you use 65% polyester and 35% cotton cloth material.

Please bring your donations in a bag or box, if possible. Bring donations to:

VCU Medical Center Gateway Building
Valet entrance
1200 E. Marshall St.
Richmond, VA

Hours:
Monday-Friday, 5 a.m.-11 p.m.

Valet personnel will assist you with your donation. When you arrive, they will ask you some quick questions and offer you a tax deduction form that you can mail to us for your receipt.

Donate blood
VCU Health and the American Red Cross are hosting local blood drives to prevent blood supply shortages for hospital patients. We encourage healthy, eligible individuals to donate blood or platelets during this time.

Give words of encouragement
We greatly appreciate and happily accept messages of thanks and encouragement for our team members. Share your message on Massey’s Facebook page so all our team members can see your words of encouragement.

Donate food
Should an organization or restaurant wish to partner with VCU Health to donate food for health system employees, please contact Nathan Cunningham at (804) 628-1795. At this time, we accept only take-out donations, and we are unable to accept individual food donations.

Give financial contributions
As central Virginia’s COVID response team, VCU Health researchers and caregivers are working around the clock to provide resources and care to fight this pandemic. Meanwhile, VCU faculty and students have transitioned to a completely online teaching and learning environment, which provides its own set of challenges. Help VCU respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting one of two brand new funds.

  • VCU COVID-19 Response Fund supports research and clinical care related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as: Central Virginia COVID-19 Command Center, medical research and clinical care.
  • VCU Student Life and Learning Fund support the most pressing student needs during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond, such as: emergency assistance for travel, internet access, housing; equipment and supplies; tuition relief; academic and career advising.

To give to one or both of these funds, please visit this page.

Massey’s lifesaving research continues during this crisis. To support cancer research, please visit this page to make a gift.
