VCU Massey Cancer Center director Robert Winn, M.D., recently joined the boards of directors of two influential cancer organizations, the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) and LUNGevity Foundation.

The AACI is a membership-based organization comprised of 102 of the leading academic and freestanding cancer research centers in North America. It works to advance the objectives of the cancer centers by promoting their efforts, educating policymakers and facilitating interaction and collaborations among its members.

In his role on the board, Winn will work closely with other AACI leaders to make the biggest possible impact on the nation’s efforts to eradicate cancer.

LUNGevity Foundation is focused on improving outcomes for people with lung cancer through research, education, policy initiatives, and support and engagement for patients, survivors, and caregivers. LUNGevity seeks to make an immediate impact on quality of life and survivorship for everyone touched by the disease while working to address disparities throughout the care continuum. LUNGevity works to advance research into early detection and more effective treatments, provide information and educational tools to empower patients and their caregivers, promote impactful public policy initiatives, and amplify the patient voice through research and engagement.

In a recent press release, President and CEO of LUNGevity Andrea Ferris remarked: “We are thrilled to have Dr. Winn join our Board of Directors. Dr. Winn’s years of hands-on experience with lung cancer patients paired with his expertise in health equity and community engagement will be invaluable to the organization. We are excited to have his unique perspective and look forward to working with him on our research and health equity programs and to expand our outreach efforts.”
