Massey director to make keynote address on lung cancer screening disparities
Jan 13, 2022
Robert A. Winn, M.D., director and Lipman Chair in Oncology at VCU Massey Cancer Center, will deliver the opening keynote address at the Association of Cancer Executives (ACE) 28th Annual Meeting. ACE is a national organization offering continuing education in the areas of oncology, clinical research, leadership development, cancer care, patient care and cancer research, along with executive development. It aims to promote improvements in the delivery of patient care.
Winn will speak on disparities in lung cancer screening.
“For the whole concept of screening to work, you have to do two things well: connect with the community and gain the trust of the community,” said Winn. “At Massey, we are committed to doing both and know efforts can be replicated across the country. As a team, we are absolutely convinced that high-tech is good, but you only get some of the benefits if you don’t also have high-touch. People need both high-tech and high-touch, and they are the approaches we are pursuing.”
Winn will also share his vision for eliminating health disparities through empowering underserved patient populations, improving health care delivery and ensuring equal access to cutting-edge medical treatments.
"We are honored to have Dr. Winn address the ACE Annual Meeting attendees on such an important and timely topic," said Brian Mandrier, executive director of ACE.
Winn will deliver his ACE remarks virtually. The Annual Meeting will convene in Charleston, S.C., January 23-25, 2022.
