Longtime Massey nurse wins distinguished award
Jun 3, 2014
For 15 years, Kevin Brigle, Ph.D., A.N.P., has served VCU Massey Cancer Center as a nurse practitioner. Working in the Hematological Malignancy Clinic, Brigle focuses on treating patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and other blood borne cancers.
Recently, Brigle was awarded the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Pearl Moore “Making a Difference” Award. This award is named in honor of former (ONS) CEO Pearl Moore, a pioneer in oncology nursing, and recognizes oncology nurse leaders who are making a difference in the profession at a local and regional level.
“This is well-deserved recognition for Kevin’s longstanding contributions to advanced clinical care, mentorship and leadership in oncology nursing,” says Steven R. Grossman, M.D., Ph.D., deputy director at Massey.
Brigle was presented the award during the opening ceremonies of the ONS Annual Congress in Anaheim, California.
“It is an honor to receive this award and be included among such amazing individuals. It was a complete surprise as my colleagues, Alison Ryan, A.N.P., secretly nominated me, and Robin Pearce, R.N., helped with the application,” says Brigle. “I love working at an academic institution, and here at Massey, I have great colleagues and support.”
