Engaging our Community on Priorities for Research and Closing Disparities Gaps

The inaugural Breast Cancer Summit meeting was held on April 19, 2022 at The Westin Richmond. The event featured more than XX scientific presentations, a community champions panel, and nearly XX attendees, including basic, clinical, and population science-focused researchers, physician scientists, community members, and students and trainees with an interest in breast cancer research.
Keynote speaker: Hayley Thompson, Ph.D
Dr. Thompson is a Professor in the Department of Oncology at Wayne State University and the Associate Center Director for Community Outreach and Engagement at the Karmanos Cancer Institute. She’s a clinical psychologist whose research addresses racial and ethnic disparities in cancer care and outcomes, community-based research, and cancer survivorship. She is one of the principal investigators of the African American Resilience in Surviving Cancer study. She also created and currently directs the Michigan Cancer HealthLink, a community-academic partnership to build research capacity in diverse communities.
